The Burstyn group studies bioinorganic chemistry and the role of the inorganic elements in biological systems.  Specifically, we explore the function of metalloproteins in gas sensing by studying how the interaction of a gas molecule with a metal center alters the structure and function of the protein.  Many of the proteins we study are allosterically regulated transcription factors.
